Dactovin is an antiviral medication used to treat Hepatitis. It is manufactured by Strides Shasun Ltd, it contains Daclatasvir as its main component and is available as an oral tablet.

Uses

Hepatitis C infections in adults involve treatment using this medicine. Generally used in combination with other antiviral drugs that are used to treat Hepatitis.

How does the Dactavin tablet work?

Dactavin tablet contains Daclatasvir (60 mg), which is a nonstructural protein 5A inhibitor. It reduces the amount of Hepatitis C virus in the body by preventing its multiplication and spread.

Side Effects

This medicine has not been studied extensively on its own, the side effects are therefore those seen in patients who undergo combination therapy.

Commonly reported side effects in patients using Dactovin are,

Headache
Fatigue or weakness
Itchiness
Anemia or low levels of red blood cells
Nausea
Difficulty with sleeping or Insomnia
Rashes
Pain in muscle
Diarrhea

Most side effects are usually mild and go away on their own without any treatment as the body gets acclimated to the medicine. Consult a doctor, if the side effects tend to persist or worsen.

Risks to consider

This medicine has been known to cause bradycardia, so let your doctor know of any history of heart disease before taking Dactovin.

Ribavirin, which can potentially cause harm to the fetus, is oftentimes used in combination with this medicine. If you are pregnant, plan to get pregnant, or are a breastfeeding mother, let your doctor know beforehand.

If you get pregnant while on a course of this, discontinue it and consult your doctor immediately. Do not breastfeed while on this medication.

Dosage

Take the Dactovin as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush, break or chew the tablet.

In case you take more than the recommended amount of this medicine, consult your doctor. If you missed a dose, don’t double dose. Take it as soon as possible and if it is time for your next tablet, skip the missed one. Continue with the prescribed schedule.
