Albavir Tablet is a combination drug used in the treatment of HIV as a part of antiretroviral therapy. Manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, it contains Abacavir and Lamivudine, which belong to the reverse transcriptase inhibitor class.

Uses

Albavir Tablets are antiretrovirals used to treat HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) infected patients.

How does the Albavir Tablet work?

Albavir Tablet contains 600 mg of Abacavir and 300 mg of Lamivudine. Abacavir (also known as ABC) and Lamivudine (also known as 3TC) are both nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitors that work to stop DNA synthesis and terminate DNA growth.

Taking this medicine will not cure AIDS or HIV infections. But when combined with other antiretrovirals, these medications will reduce the viral load on your body. Eventually, the HIV levels in your body will be undetectable.

Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while taking Albavir Tablets as they may often make you dizzy.

Hypersensitivity to the drug has been reported and includes fever, malaise, and diarrhea. Consult a doctor if the patient displays any signs or symptoms of hypersensitivity. These symptoms overlap with symptoms of HIV infections, hence hypersensitivity often goes undetected.

If you have had a history of liver or kidney diseases, take this medication with caution as it may sometimes aggravate these conditions.

Dosage

Take the Albavir tablet for as long as the doctor advises you to and at the prescribed dosage. Swallow the tablet as a whole with a glass of water without chewing or crushing the tablets.
