Alltera tablet is a combination drug composed of two antiretroviral medicines namely Lopinavir and Ritonavir. Manufactured by Mylan Pharmaceuticals Pvt Ltd, it is used in antiretroviral therapy to treat HIV patients.
Alltera tablets are used to treat HIV infections.
It is also used as a PEP or Post-Exposure Prophylaxis to prevent HIV in suspected cases of exposure.
Alltera Tablets consist of a low dose of Ritonavir, 50 mg combined with a larger dose of Lopinavir. Both of these constituents are protease inhibitors. These stop HIV viruses from producing new viruses and multiplying by blocking their access to protease.
These are not a cure for HIV but when taken in combination with other antiretrovirals, these drugs can decrease HIV viral load on the body and eventually make it undetectable.

Antiretroviral Medications like the Alltera Tablets can cause IRIS or immune reconstitution inflammatory syndrome as the immune system rebuilds itself. This may often cause some infections to suddenly exacerbate. This is generally taken as a sign of recovery.
People with pre-existing heart conditions must exercise caution before taking these tablets. Let your doctor know about any such conditions.
If you have a history of liver issues or kidney issues, let your doctor know beforehand. On consultation, your doctor may prescribe another tablet with fewer side effects or risks for you.
Overall the risks of not treating HIV outweigh the side effects that these medications may cause.
Take alltera tablets as prescribed by your doctor. Do not chew or crush the tablet, swallow it whole with a glass of water. This medication must be taken with food for optimal results.
